East Pembroke Fire Department Receive UTV

GENESEE COUNTY/East Pembroke

Buck’s motorsports and Can-Am team up to help provide the East Pembroke Fire Department with a UTV

Jan Schafer, owner of Buck’s Motorsports in Akron, has been looking to help out the East Pembroke Fire Department for a little while now.

He lives in the fire district and has been helping the department over the years at their fundraising events.

Schafer approached Fire Chief Don Newton about a loaner program with Can-Am.

“We are all for it,” says Robert Yungfleisch, Chairman of the East Pembroke Fire District.

The department will get a Can-Am Defender model UTV for a year at no cost with an option to buy it at under 20% of the dealer cost.

“We are definitely going to buy it, we will pay for it before the year is up.”

Fire Chief Don Newton has already installed emergency lighting and accessories have been sold to the department at cost.

“It’s another tool, it is a great tool for any fire service to have,” says Newton.

“It’s not just for East Pembroke’s district, it is for any other neighboring department that might need a use for it.”

Newton says there have been increased calls in Genesee County for lost hunters, snowmobile accidents, four wheeler and ATV accidents.

Alexander has a Gator utility vehicle that is used very often in mutual aid calls throughout the county.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office just recently put an off road vehicle on the road, using it at Darien Lake concert events and most recently in a search for a missing elderly man in Bethany.

In Orleans County, two volunteer departments have off road utility vehicles.

“Our customers need something like this,” says Schafer.

“You know if they get hurt on the trail, I think it is extremely important to have some vehicles like this”
