BATAVIA/Notre Dame’s Rapone honored for Section V Hall of Fame induction

Coach Mike Rapone was honored at Notre Dame High School on Saturday for his induction into the Section V Hall of Fame.

Rapone was inducted into the Section V Hall of Fame in November of 2016 as the most winningest coach in Section V Boys Basketball history.

Rapone currently has 653 wins in his 35 years of coaching.

Coach Rapone was honored during a Hoops Extravaganza event at Notre Dame High School. All four basketball teams, girls and boys, JV and Varsity, played against the LeRoy Knights.

Rapone has led the Irish to 30 Genesee Region League Basketball Championships, 9 Section V titles, 6 Far West Regional Championships and 2 NYS Championships.

He has been honored as Section V Coach of the year 3 times and Genesee Region Coach of the Year 4 times.

Dr. Joe Scanlan worked with Rapone for 11 years as Principal at Notre Dame High School.

Scanlan told a packed house the last thing Rapone is looking for is notoriety.

“He is not one to boast about his accomplishments,” says Scanlan.

“He is someone that we all connect with Notre Dame past and present and basketball far and wide. He is someone who takes pride in doing the right thing, and being there for others.”

“He is empathetic, caring and will go the extra mile for anyone.”

“They don’t come anymore humble than Mike Rapone,” Scanlan says.
