BATAVIA/Breaking boards for a good cause

The students at Refuse 2 Lose Martial Arts range in age from 3-60 years old.

Together four classes raised $3,000 and broke 350 boards to raise money for the Michael Napoleone Memorial Foundation on Saturday morning.

This is the first time the “Summer Kick Off Party” was held at the Liberty street location.

“This year we didn’t do a baseball tournament that we normally do,” says Laurie Napoleone, mother of Michael Napoleone, “So we reached out to new groups and new events in the community.”

For every $10 raised each student had the opportunity to break a board.

There was also a dunk tank, face painting, bounce house and hot dogs for lunch.

The students had their own sponsors for breaking the boards.

“We like to do community events and we were looking for an organization to help raise some money,” says Ron Cain, owner of Refuse 2 Lose Martial Arts.

“We do the break- a -thon and choose different charities each year, so this was kind of a perfect thing for us.”
