GENESEE COUNTY/LeRoy man seriously injured while crossing Rt. 5 on his bicycle

A LeRoy man was seriously injured while crossing the road on his bicycle a little before 8:20 a.m. Saturday morning.

The Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting a bicyclist lying in the road with serious injury after colliding with car.

Darwin G. Matthews, 73, of LeRoy was attempting to cross the road at 6801 Rt. 5, heading north, when he failed to yield the right of way to an eastbound vehicle.

The vehicle involved, a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser, was being operated by Megan L. Furr, 31.

Matthews was transported by LeRoy Volunteer Ambulance to Strong Hospital in Rochester with serious physical injuries.

Furr was treated at the scene and released.

The accident is being investigated by Sgt. Jason Saile, Inv. Chad Minuto, Deputy Andrew Hale, Deputy Lonnie Nati and LeRoy Police Officer Emily McNamara.

Assisting at the scene were members of the LeRoy Fire Department and the LeRoy Volunteer Ambulance.
