BATAVIA/Adventurers needed for new escape room challenge

You and your team have one hour to put all the clues together and solve a combination of original logic puzzles, lock puzzles and math problems in “Pharaoh’s Crossing” a new escape room at Escape-ology that has just opened at 8 City Centre in Batavia.(near Maya Yoga in the mall)

Mondell and Pam Elliott, who are from LeRoy, decided they wanted to open an escape room a few years ago and were searching in the Gates/Chili area, but life happened and it never developed.

“I think this location was meant to be, this just fell right into our lap and here we are, I think it was meant to be,” says Pam.

Mondell and Pam experienced their first escape room 5 years ago and have been hooked on the challenge ever since.

The first team to experience the Egyptian themed room was able to solve the mysteries in about 43 minutes. The group of five included the owners of “Into the Enigma” an escape room in Medina which has been open for about a year and a half.

“We wanted to support another local business,” says Tim Elliott, co-owner of “Into the Enigma.”

“You can tell they put a lot of thought and time into their puzzles,” says Joe Gould co-owner of “Into the Enigma.”

“I had never done this before,” says Rose Elliott from Elba.

“It was nice, the smells, she has the smell right and she has the music right, very authentic to step into.”

“It was very well related to their theme and everything just fits together without being confusing,” says Gould.

“Definitely immersed in the situation and the scenario you are in,” says Elliott.

When guests arrive they will hear a themed story line, in this case, there have been rumors that there may be some hunting going on or some curse going on in a newly discovered pyramid.

The guests will then have to help crack the mysteries of the room and figure out what is really going on. They will receive clues via scrolls.

“The first thing you do in any escape room is just treasure hunt, you just look around for things and clues,” says Pam.

“Things then start to come together and one puzzle leads to the next and the next.”

The experience is good also for team building and corporate communications for businesses.

Mondell and Pam plan to open 3-4 other rooms in the future with different themes.

A children’s room  is also being planned for kids 4-10 years old. For the younger kids it will be more like a scavenger hunt puzzle and for older kids there will be puzzles that won’t be as complex.

Recommended age to experience the current escape room is 10 and up.

Escape-ology is the first escape room in Batavia. It opened it’s doors on Friday and was already booked on opening night.

“It’s good clean fun,” says Pam.

“We need something like this around here for a night out.”

Escape-ology is open for bookings on Friday evenings and also Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
