GENESEE COUNTY/ Kids get to “Shop with a Cop” at Wal-Mart

50 kids from Genesee County participated in the 3rd Annual “Shop with a Cop” event this year at Wal-Mart in Batavia.

12 Officers from the Batavia Police Department, 15 from the Sheriff’s Office, 10 State Troopers along with K-9 Paris and Destro participated in this year’s event.

Grant money from Wal-Mart was distributed equally to all three law enforcement agencies while schools within Genesee County assisted in choosing the children.

“We want to engage the community and really give back to our customers and our community that’s close to us,” says Trish Miller, Market Manager/Asset Protection at Wal-Mart.

The City of Batavia Police Benevolent Association, Genesee County Deputy Sheriff’s Association, City of Batavia/CSEA, the “Jeans for Friday” program, Department of Public Works/AFSCME, and H.E Turner and Co. Funeral Home of Batavia and Bergen raised additional funds which enabled 20 extra children to participate.

After shopping, kids were able to meet with Santa and have their photo taken.

Gift wrapping material was donated by Wal-Mart and wrapping was completed by the Young Adults Group from Batavia City Church, members of the Batavia Police Explorer’s Post and family members from the Batavia Police Department and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
