GENESEE COUNTY/LeRoy Fire announces 2017 Firefighter of the Year at annual banquet

Always willing to lend a hand and great work ethic is how LeRoy Fire Chief Tim Hogle describes Firefighter of the Year, Kevin McCrary.

“He is a very hard worker, from the hall, to calls ,to our fundraisers. You see him at the hall cleaning the apparatus, checking the tools and equipment and cleaning up around the hall.”

The Department responded to 419 calls in 2017.

First Assistant Chief ,Thomas Wood, was the Top Responder, with 303 calls.

Wood says during the storms in March and April the department responded to 75 calls during power outages that shut down the Village .

The Chief’s Award went to all the firefighters involved during the storms.

Three people were recognized with a Commendation after an incident at the Save A Lot store in LeRoy where a woman suffered a cardiac event that stopped her heart.

ENCON Officer Fay Fuerch, Officer Greg Kellog and Firefighter Rob Radley were recognized for starting life saving measures before the arrival of LeRoy Ambulance. While the woman never fully recovered, their lifesaving efforts allowed time for her only remaining son to arrive home and say goodbye to his mother.
