Kim Brodsky and her fiancée Kyle Madden have been living at Children’s Hospital in Buffalo since February 1.

After an emergency C-Section at 30 weeks, because a placenta abruption, where the placenta tears away from the uterine wall, Kim and Kyle thought they had lost their son Tanner after he was born at UMMC. Doctors were able to resuscitate him after the C-Section. During the time from the placenta abruption and birth, Tanner went without oxygen which has left 8 day old Tanner with bleeding on the brain.
“When the placenta ripped away from the uterine wall, no one knows how long Tanner was without oxygen,” says Stacy Torres, Kim’s mother.
“He now has bleeding on both sides of the brain, clotting in his liver and abnormal brain activity. It has been an emotional roller coaster.”
Kim and Kyle are now faced with the tough decision of keeping Tanner on a ventilator in the hopes that he pulls through or let him go.
Doctors at Children’s Hospital have told the family that if Tanner does pull through, he has high chances of being in a wheelchair or mentally handicapped for the rest of his life.

“They are staying away from home to be with Tanner and they are both not working so they can be at the hospital, but they are still facing life’s expenses like bills, food and gas,” says Muntz. They are also traveling back and forth as they try and take care of their other son Skyler, who is a 7 year old student at Jackson school.
Kim is a graduate of Batavia High School and will graduate from GCC in a few months as an alcohol and substance abuse counselor.

Torres, who is an EMT, says, “Knowing the medical field, it’s scary when it hits home. I am scared to go to work knowing he is in such critical condition.”
“I only ask for prayers, if the community wants to help that is a blessing, but we are hoping for the power of prayer.”
Please dont pull the plug my cousin went through the similar thing with the bleeding on the brain. Children’s told her the same thing. Her daughter is now 10 years old and as healthy as can be. She is a little delayed in school but other than that she is fine. Your baby is in my prayers. Sending lots of love and prayers to you and your family.

I also live at the hospital. I’ve been here since January 19 with my 15 year old daughter. My 5 month old granddaughter is also here in the PICU also on a ventilator.
