According to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, John L. Carney, 23, of LeRoy suffered a fatal gunshot wound after several subjects were involved in a horseplay incident during a party inside a barn on the property at 6490 Byron Holley road in Byron.
Carney was pronounced dead at the scene by Genesee County Coroner Donald Coleman. An autopsy will be conducted at the Monroe County Medical Examiners Office.
6-7 people were in the barn at the time.
The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident at this time, and two subjects are being questioned about what occurred.
The semi automatic handgun involved in the fatal shooting was the victim’s permitted handgun.
The incident occurred about 11:45p.m. Friday.
The investigation is ongoing and further details will be released when available.
