Four fire companies battled wind whipped flames after being called to a fully involved house fire at 4719 East road in the Town of Batavia Wednesday night.
Town of Batavia Deputy Chief, Chad Higgins, says the call came in about 9:15 or so and upon arrival there were flames blowing out of the front left side of the second story.
Heavy winds helped fuel the fire.
“Once we got the ladder truck in place we were able to knock down the bulk of the fire,” says Higgins.
The fire was contained to the front portion of the structure as crews made entry through the back area in the garage to attack the fire and save the back portion of the house from the flames.
No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no pets inside at the time.
Higgins says the cause of the fire is unknown, but a wood stove could have caused the fire.
City of Batavia, Alexander and LeRoy Fire also responded to the scene. Stafford and Oakfield filled in at the Town of Batavia hall.
