Press release
On Tuesday, January 10, 2017, Bradley J. Broadbent, 37, formerly of Batavia,
was found guilty after a 3 day jury trial in Wyoming County Court of one count each of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree and Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd degree.
Wyoming County Court Judge Michael M. Mohun presided over the trial.
The charges stem from the defendant’s possession and then sale of 13 bags of heroin,
laced with the horse tranquilizer Xylazine, to a Confidential Informant in the
Village of Perry on January 14, 2016.
Following the verdict, the defendant was remanded without bail to the custody of the Wyoming County Jail.
His sentencing has been scheduled for February 23, 2017.
Due to Broadbent’s significant criminal history, both of these Class B Felony
convictions could potentially result in a maximum sentence of 15 years in state
prison followed by 3 years of Post-Release Supervision.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Eric R. Schiener
and the defendant was represented by Assistant Public Defender Leah R. Nowotarski.
The District Attorney’s Office would like to commend the hard work and determination of the Wyoming County Drug Task Force that resulted in
the apprehension and successful prosecution of the defendant.
ADA Schiener stated,“Today’s convictions represent just one small measure
of District Attorney Donald O’Geen’s resolute and concentrated efforts to combat the
scourge of heroin and other opioids in Wyoming County.”
Schiener added,“Thanks to the commitment and dedication of both the Drug Task Force and District Attorney O’Geen, there is now one less purveyor of
this poison on the streets of Perry.”
