BERGEN/ Two men help free injured woman from burning car

Ross Gingrich and Brian Frew happened to be in the right place at the right time Thursday afternoon.

The pair had just made a lumber delivery for Genesee Lumber in the area of West Bergen road and Rt. 33 in Bergen when Frew witnessed an accident at the intersection.

Gingrich and Frew then approached the scene to see what they could do to help.

One vehicle was on fire and the female driver was trapped and injured.

Gingrich says he quickly unloaded the forklift on the back of the lumber truck while Frew brought over a few fire extinguishers.

Gingrich was able to free the female driver of the burning car who had half of her body trapped inside the car while the other half was outside the car.

After slightly lifting the vehicle with the forklift, the woman was pulled from the burning vehicle.

“She was alive when they took her away, she was breathing, but not talking, hopefully she will be okay,” says Gingrich.

The woman was transported to Strong Hospital by ambulance with unknown injuries.

The male driver of the other car was also injured and was extricated from his vehicle. He was also transported to Strong Hospital by ambulance.

“I believe God had me here for a reason today,” says Gingrich.

State Police are investigating the accident .

On January 12, 2017 at 2:30 pm, Troopers responded to a two car serious personal injury collision on County Route 31 and State Route 33 in the Town of Bergen.

The 2005 Dodge Magnum driven by Otavia M. Bell, 18 of Rochester, NY, traveling north bound on County Route 31 failed to stop for the at the stop sign and was struck by 2014 Chevrolet Impala driven by Donald L. Bausch, 74 of Batavia, NY, traveling west bound on State Route 33.

Both operators were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.

This collison is still under investigation.
