WYOMING COUNTY/Castile Diner fire a big loss for those in the community

The Castile Diner was a big part of the community in the Village of Castile.

It was a meeting place where everyone felt welcome.

Lila Emmons stopped here to eat quite a bit with her mother.

“It was a really nice place,” says Emmons, a lifetime resident of Castile.

“They knew their customers, they took the time to talk with you, they knew a lot of the people, they didn’t just take your order and walk away.”

With the loss of the Castile Diner, Village residents will not have much of choice for dining out.

In 2012, Lorraine’s Place burned down after a fire consumed the building that housed the Castile Town and Village offices. The cause of that fire was determined to be arson.

“To see this, oh my God.”

“I didn’t want to believe it, this place has been here so long.”

According to Emmons, the recent operator of the restaurant, Amy Goodenow, put a lot of work into getting the place up and running over a year ago.

“It’s sad. They have struggled with this,  they met a lot of roadblocks to get this place open.”

“To see this end result, I don’t know if they will try to put it back up again.”

  1. Our most recent visit to this restaurant was Oct 2016 for breakfast on our way to Fla. Great meal friendly staff. So many memories of this place. My question is WHY?
