A Darien couple woke up Saturday morning to a tractor trailer at their front door on Broadway road.
The semi was traveling west on Rt. 20 when it went off the north shoulder of the road and went over a guide rail, hit a ravine and then rolled over on its side onto a parked Jeep Cherokee in the front yard of Doug Bottomley’s house.
Bottomley’s wife, who was getting ready for work about 5a.m., heard a grinding noise.
“It sounded like a snow plow not plowing right,” Bottomley’s wife said.
According to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the semi fell asleep at the wheel and went off the road.
The trailer was carrying shoes.
The driver was not injured.
Fire crews from Darien arrived on scene and were able to help the driver out of the cab through a back window.
Bottomley says he has witnessed quite a few semi accidents in the stretch of road in front of his house, but never one on his front door step taking out his Jeep.
Deputies on scene say the truck driver will be issued traffic tickets in the incident.
