GENESEE COUNTY/ Mercy EMS breaks ground on new operations center

Mercy EMS has been serving Genesee County since 2009 and today they officially broke ground on a new 11,500 square foot operations center on Call Parkway.

The $2.3 million dollar project will enable the ambulance service to be located in a central location in the County and have a large enough facility for their ambulance fleet and fly cars for maintenance, storage and equipment.

The building will also house a training facility for employees.

The project is three years in the making.

After searching for an existing building for one year that would fit their needs and a central location, Mercy EMS decided that building near the airport and close to Mercy Flight helicopters at the Genesee County airport was a better location. They will move the city based ambulances from the Jerome Center to the Call Parkway location.

The ambulance service will continue to have a base for ambulances in Pembroke and South Byron to keep quick response times on either end of the county.

The new building should be enclosed by winter so work crews can work on the interior. A spring opening is expected.
