The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office is investigating how a suspect, who was under arrest and in custody, was able to slip out the back door of a court room wearing handcuffs.
The suspect, Dylan Perry, 25, was under arrest after he was charged with criminal trespass 3rd and aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd after being picked up by deputies in Bennington earlier Friday morning.
Because there was no judge available in Bennington, Perry was brought to Attica Village/Town Court to be arraigned about 9:00a.m. Friday morning.
State Police, Attica Police, DEC Officers and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office all assisted the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office in the search for the escapee. K-9 units were also brought in and the State Police helicopter assisted.
According to Wyoming County Sheriff Gregory Rudolph, Perry does not have a violent criminal history, but does have a criminal history. He is currently on probation in Monroe County where he resides.
As a precaution, Attica and Alexander schools were placed in lockdown for a short time Friday morning. Schools released students about 3:20p.m.
As of 1:40p.m., the search for the suspect was suspended. Sheriff Rudolph says the investigation will still continue and they will be checking with friends and family members of Perry.
If anyone spots Dylan Perry they should call 9-1-1.
