On December 15, 2017, members of the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police conducted a joint “STOP DWI” sobriety checkpoint on Route 436 in the Hamlet of Portageville which resulted in one arrest.
Members were looking for impaired motorists and approximately 125 motorists traveled through the checkpoint which resulted in one driving while impaired by drugs arrest and a two (2) open container violations.
Brandon M. Becker, 25, of Centerline Road, Varysburg, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while Impaired by drugs and unlawful possession of marijuana after he was found to be impaired at the checkpoint. Becker was arrested and processed by Sergeant Colin Reagan of the Sheriff’s Office and was later released.
Law Enforcement officials will continue to conduct checkpoints and extra roving patrols throughout the remainder of the year as part of the New York State Stop DWI campaign.
