WYOMING COUNTY/Silver Springs woman charged with criminally negligent homicide in UTV accident

A Silver Springs woman is facing charges stemming from a fatal accident in October of 2017.

Karen A. Budlong, 48, of Silver Springs is charged with criminally negligent homicide, a class E felony, following an investigation by the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, into a fatal utility vehicle accident (UTV) in the Town of Gainesville.

It is believed that alcohol was a factor in the accident that killed Jesse M. Caudill, 35, of  the Town of Wethersfield. Caudill was a passenger in the utility vehicle operated by Budlong at the time of the crash.

Budlong will return to court in the Town of Gainesville on April 09 2018.

(The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty)

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, Gainesville Rescue, and Medic 80 investigated a fatal accident in the Town of Gainesville involving a Utility Vehicle.
Jesse M. Caudill, 36, from the Town of Wethersfield was killed in a Utility Vehicle (UTV) accident. The accident occurred Saturday night in the Town of Gainesville. Caudill, a passenger in the UTV and two other subjects were traveling east on an abandoned railroad bed when the operator of the vehicle lost control and drove over an embankment. Caudill was ejected from the vehicle and died as a result of his injuries. The accident investigation is continuing.
