Following a report of a stolen vehicle out of the Village of Warsaw, a deputy from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office located the suspect vehicle traveling on Route 20A in the Town of Perry on March 20, 2018.
As Deputy Asquith attempted to conduct a traffic stop with the suspect vehicle, the driver failed to comply and drove away.
Deputy Asquith pursued the vehicle and was assisted by Sergeant Bryant and Village of Perry Police Officer Spink.
The pursuit lasted for about fourteen minutes.
The suspect vehicle traveled through the towns of Perry, Castile, and Gainesville before the driver of the vehicle fled on foot into a wooded area off of Sowerby Road.
The foot pursuit was over quickly and the driver, Ronald B. Sachanowski, 32, no known address, formerly of Warsaw, was apprehended and taken into custody without incident.
Following field sobriety testing, Sachanowski was found to be under the influence of narcotics.
Sachanowski is charged with DWAI-Drugs after an evaluation by a certified Drug Recognition Expert. Sachanowski was found to have an active warrant of arrest out of the County of Wyoming and also had a suspended New York driver’s license with seven (7) active suspensions.
Sachanowski was also found to be in possession of suspected heroin, hypodermic needles as well as other miscellaneous drug paraphernalia. He is charged with two counts of felony aggravated unlicensed operation 1st degree, unlicensed operation and numerous other vehicle and traffic law violations and misdemeanors.
Sachanowski was also charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property 4th and obstruction of governmental administration.
He was arraigned in the Town of Perry Court and committed to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $55,000 cash/$100,000 bond. He also has charges to answer in the Towns of Perry, Castile and Gainesville. Sachanowski is to appear in the above courts at a later date.
