GENESEE COUNTY/Suspect in Officer involved shooting was making threats towards people inside the bar to come out and fight, asking where are the police?

An early morning press conference at the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office did not reveal many new details in the Officer involved shooting that occurred at the Log Cabin Restaurant late on Wednesday evening.

“He(the suspect) was yelling threats and asking them(people inside the bar) to come out for a fight,” says Undersheriff Greg Walker.

“He also was making comments of where are the police?”

According to Undersheriff Greg Walker, police responded to the Log Cabin Restaurant for a report of shots being fired inside and outside the restaurant about 11pm.

There were 9 people inside the restaurant at the time.

A deputy, first to respond on scene, made contact with the suspect in the parking lot, the deputy yelled commands to the suspect which were not followed. The suspect then pointed his handgun at the deputy who then in turn shot the suspect.

The suspect died at the scene.

No one else was injured in the incident.

The suspect’s name has not been released at this time pending family notification.

The Officer was wearing a body camera and it was operational at the time. It is currently being reviewed.

The handgun used by the suspect has been recovered.

“There is a lot we can’t comment on,” says Major Edward Kennedy/Troop A/State Police.

“It is in the very early stages of the investigation, this is a tragedy for everyone. Interviews and notifications are sill being conducted and the crime scene is still being analyzed.”

The Sheriff’s Department will conduct the internal part of the investigation and the State Police will be in charge of the rest of the investigation.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, this incident is the first Officer involved shooting in the area since the late 70s, which occurred on Oak street and involved the City of Batavia Police.
