Sheriff Bill Sheron Jr. announced the appointment of three new School Resource Officers assigned to three different districts.
The Pembroke School District has chosen Deputy Patrick J. Reeves as its new School Resource Officer. Reeves graduated from Pembroke High School in 1992 and is a 22 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office.
“I just think its a good way to connect with the kids,” says Reeves.
” I’m excited, this a whole new chapter for me. I’ve been a coach here in Pembroke, so I think this is just the next step to make that connection with the kids, keep them focused and get them to their goals and get a good career and while I’m in school help every kid that I possibly can.”
Deputy Reeves will start his 10 month appointment to the position on September 1, 2018.

The Alexander School District has chosen Deputy Eric J. Meyer as its School Resource Officer. Meyer graduated from Alexander in 2006 and is a 3 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office.
“Can’t think of any other school I would like to work for,” says Meyer.
Meyer lives in the community and says he likes the idea of working in his own backyard “I think it will be a good opportunity for me and the school and to be a good role model for the kids.”
Deputy Meyer will begin his 10 month appointment on September 1, 2018.

Pavilion Central Schools has chosen Deputy Cory W. Mower as its School Resource Officer. Mower is a 22 year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office.
“I have two daughters, I do a lot of things with them when I can and I do a lot of things with the school when I can,” says Mower.
“I prefer to be a mentor or friend to the kids, teach them to not be afraid of us, teach them that they can come to us and talk to us. I don’t get excited about much, but I could probably say I’m excited about this.”
Deputy Mower will start his 12 month appointment on July 1, 2018.
Additionally, the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership(BOCES) and the Byron Bergen Central School District have also renewed their commitments for next year’s School Resource Officers on campus.
Sheriff Sheron says it is his goal to establish a School Resource Officer position in all county school districts to ensure the safety and protection of the students and faculty.
“Although the cost associated with placing a School Resource Officer in the schools is significant, I believe the safety and security of our children should be of the utmost precedence. I applaud the tremendous support received from the school administrators, school boards and the Genesee County Legislature, which ultimately made this possible.”
Currently, Oakfield/Alabama Schools and Elba Central Schools have decided not to add a School Resource Officer.
