One person was sent to UMMC to be checked out after a house fire at 35 Maple street in the City of Batavia early Friday morning.
The initial call was for a house fire with two children unaccounted for.
Officer Arick Perkins and Sgt. Eric Bolles with the Batavia Police Department were the first to arrive on scene and were able to locate the children at a residence next door. One child was about 11 months and the other about 8 years old.
Police say they are not sure if the kids were next door during the fire or escaped the fire and went next door.
Sgt. Bolles says Officer Perkins attempted to enter the residence, but the smoke was too thick.
City Fire was able to get the smokey blaze under control quickly. A female living at the residence was transported to UMMC to be checked out.
The upper apartment was unoccupied.
The home is not livable tonight and Red Cross was going to be contacted for the woman and the children living there.
City Fire is looking into the cause of the fire.
