Looking into different ways to fund the historical renovation of the Redfield Parkway pillars, Batavia City Council has decided to move the project to the 2019 budget, which will give the City and the Historical Preservation Commission more time to look into ways to fund the project which was estimated to be in the range of $57,000-$67,000 according to a Historical Preservation Company out of Perry who will essentially dismantle the pillars and then historically reconstruct them.
At Monday evening’s City Council Conference meeting, several residents spoke about the historical renovation of the pillars in the public comments section of the meeting. Council then discussed the project more in depth later in the meeting with Interim City Manager Matt Worth, deciding to look into different ways to possibly fund the project, possibly through grants, private donations or using the remaining funds in the Vibrant Batavia budget. Currently, there are no funds in the 2018 budget to complete the renovation of the 100 year old pillars.
