The first Teen Academy class celebrated their graduation from the week long program on Friday afternoon at Byron Bergen High School.
14 students graduated after spending the week with Sheriff’s Deputies each day doing physical training, classroom lectures, demonstrations and hands on experience.
Deputy Matthew Butler, who is a school resource officer at Byron Bergen High School, came up with the idea and pitched it to Sheriff Bill Sheron.
With the Sheriff’s support along with the County Legislature, Sheriff’s Deputies, Sergeants, and Investigators, students embraced all aspects of law enforcement during the week.
“The students were provided with the opportunity to experience the various roles of law enforcement in our community,” says Sheriff Sheron.
“I want to thank the students for their hard work and dedication and all those that provided instruction throughout the week long program.”
Graduates are Zachary Babcock, Cameron Buck, Shaina DeJesus, Baily Faucett, Ethan Pocock, Luke Rindell, Noah Toal, Shawn Turner, Gianni Vallese, Alessandra Wolf and Jayson Yauchzee.
Academy Director was Deputy Matthew Butler, with assistance from Deputies Chad Cummings and Deborah Snyder.
“We look forward to hosting the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Teen Academy on an annual basis for students throughout Genesee County,” says Sheriff Sheron.
