Fire companies from Orleans and Genesee Counties responded to a residence at 5116 Oak Orchard road for a working house fire about 11:30a.m.
According to the step daughter of the homeowner, her step father was out back in his shop when the fire broke out. She says her husband was mowing his lawn next door and noticed smoke and flame coming from the 3rd floor in the Library area which is where there was a computer.
Two pets, a dog and a cat were already outside when the fire broke out.
The Red Cross was called to assist one adult male who lived the residence.
The fire went to a 2nd alarm for man power and issues with water supply from a hydrant. Tankers were used to truck in water.
Fire companies from Barre, Elba, Albion, East Shelby, Shelby, Clarendon, Hulberton, Holley, Carlton, Oakfield, Byron and the Town of Batavia Fast team all responded to the scene.
Investigators are on scene looking for the cause of the fire.
