The Oakfield/Alabama/Elba football team started a new era for section 5 football on Friday evening.
The excitement of 8 man football, complete with scrambling quarterbacks, lots of running and lots of scoring to start the 8 man football season at Oakfield/Alabama High School, which witnessed one Varsity football game on their field in 2017 during 11 man football.
CG Finney jumped out to a 16-0 lead midway through the 2nd quarter. It looked like it would be a long night for OAE.
But OAE quarterback Colton Dillon was not ready to go home without a fight. Scrambling around out of the pocket, Dillion started the scoring rout mid way through the 2nd quarter.
Then with 1:28 left in the 2nd, Ty Mott made a diving run into the end zone to make the score 16-12, Dillon added the extra two points.
On the kick off, OAE was able to deflect the ball off of a Finney player and Isacc Meija recovered the ball, enabling OAE to storm down the field, and with 4 seconds left, Ty Kropelin helped OAE take the lead and never look back.
Mott and Dillon scored TD’s in the third and were up 32-16.
CG Finney made a run in the 4th, but OAE remained on top with the final score of 46-30.
Next week OAE will travel to Marcus Whitman for game two of the 8 man season.
