Gerardo Quiros, 31, of Ridgeway was sentenced to 20 years in state prison after being found guilty of rape and criminal sexual act during a three day trial this past June.
On Monday afternoon, Judge Sara Sheldon sentenced Quiros to 10 years in state prison on four counts of rape 1st and 10 years of post release supervision.
Quiros was also sentenced to 10 years on three counts of criminal sexual act 1st and another 10 years of post release supervision.
Quiros will serve a total of 20 years in state prison and 20 years post release supervision.
He was also sentenced on several misdemeanors in the incident.
Criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th(2 counts)assault 3rd, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal mischief 4th and unlawful possession of marijuana.
The misdemeanors will be served concurrently.
In the April 2017, Quiros committed acts of violence against a female acquaintance and locked her in the bathroom, smashing her cell phone when she attempted to call 9-1-1.
When law enforcement arrived on scene, Quiros took off resulting in an hours long manhunt and a shelter in place in the Town Of Ridgeway.
Quiros was eventually found in Niagara County a few days later and taken into custody.
In May of 2017, he was indicted in the incident and was accused of repeatedly raping the woman involved for several weeks in the months of March and April.
This past January, while free on $200,000 bail, Quiros was arrested for making his way into another female acquaintance’s home in Barre, attempting to drag her outside by her feet, but the woman’s brother was able to intervene and stopped Quiros at gunpoint.
In the Barre incident, he was originally charged with burglary 2nd, attempted kidnapping 2nd and 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
He was remanded to the Jail without bail and has remained there since January.
On August 7, 2018, he pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and attempted unlawful imprisonment in the Barre incident.
He was sentenced to 1 year in that case. It will merge into the 20 year sentence.
During the sentencing, Quiros’ attorney Scott Riordan told the Judge that his client is appealing the verdict in the April 2017 case and requested that some letters in Quiros’ file be eliminated. The Judge says she will be leaving the letters in the file. Riordan also advised Quiros not to speak during his sentencing.
According to District Attorney Joseph Cardone, the case will be appealed at the Appellate Division in Rochester. The process will most likely take several months before they eventually rule on the appeal.
