BATAVIA/Suspect in carjacking in custody after police pursuit

A suspect in a carjacking is now in custody after a police pursuit from the south side to the Batavia VA on Richmond avenue.

A woman who was at the Kwik Fill at 99 Jackson street called 9-1-1 and reported that she had been ripped from her vehicle by a black male who said he had a gun, however no gun was displayed.

The suspect then took off in the woman’s white Sebring.

Police were able to quickly locate the vehicle on Liberty street at Jackson street.

The suspect did not stop for police and then led officers on a
high speed chase through the City of Batavia.

Police Chief Shawn Heubusch says speeds reached over 65 miles per hour.

When the suspect reached the intersection of Richmond avenue and Redfield Parkway, he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a brick VA sign and a tree.

He was not injured and was taken into custody.

Police Chief Shawn Heubusch says more information on the incident will be released later today.
