Two local teams of Culinary Arts students from Batavia and Mt. Morris are competing in the national Culinary Arts Challenge, which is part of the NASA HUNCH(High Schools United with NASA to Create Hardware) Program.
Today, the Batavia and Mt. Morris teams presented a vegetable or fruit recipe, the recipe criteria was set by NASA.
The Batavia team presented “Asparagus Fries” and the Mt. Morris team served up a Berries and Quinoa Salad to seven judges who are local Chefs in the area.
The scores from today are then sent to NASA, Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas and scored against all of the teams from around the United States. There are a total of 30 teams competing.
The teams with the top 10 scores move onto the final round of the competition which will be held in the spring at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston.
The teams will find out their results sometime in March.
The winning entrée will be produced at NASA’s Johnson Space Lab and sent to the International Space Station for astronauts to enjoy.
