The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer that occurred about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday afternoon in Pembroke.
Fire crews and emergency personnel responded to 352 Main road after a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer collided head-on.
According to Sgt. Andrew Hale with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department, a passenger vehicle headed westbound left it’s lane of travel for some unknown reason and entered the eastbound lane, colliding with a tractor trailer.
The driver and sole occupant of the passenger vehicle, a 2017 Lexus NX2, Wayne A. Striewing, 54, of Pembroke, died at the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer, a 2016 Peterbilt, Raymond L. Bennett, 56, of Winona, Missouri, was transported to UMMC with minor injuries.
The DEC was called to the scene to take care of a diesel fuel spill involving the tractor trailer. About 150-200 gallons leaked from the ruptured gas tanks of the semi into a ditch.
The crash is being investigated by Deputy James Stack, Deputy Kyle Krzemein, Sgt., Andrew Hale, Sgt. Jason Saile, Investigator Chris Parker, Investigator Chad Minuto, and Chief Deputy Joe Graff.
The Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene of the crash by the NYS Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, NYS DEC, Town of Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department, Indian Falls Volunteer Fire Department, East Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department, Mercy EMS and Genesee County Coroner Jeff McIntyre.
