Three Culinary Arts students from the Mt. Morris Career and Technical Education Center have made it to the final competition in the National Culinary Arts Challenge for the National NASA HUNCH Program.

The team will now travel to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas from April 14-16th to compete against nine other teams from around the country.

In February there were 28 teams from around the country who entered the competition. The Mt. Morris team, made up of Robert Sam Meyers, Anthony Uveino and Mackenzie Wheeler, created a fruit or vegetable side dish.

The Mt. Morris team created a Berry Quinoa Salad with guidance from their instructor Chef Stephen Kingston. The salad was chosen after meeting strict nutritional standards set forth by NASA along with taste, texture, aroma, appearance and overall plate presentation.

The winning entry will be produced at Johnson Space Lab and sent to the International Space Station for astronauts to enjoy.

The team from Mt. Morris along with one other team from the Genesee Valley Education Partnership(GV Boces), Batavia, was the only school in NYS to have teams participate in the NASA HUNCH Competition.
