ON MARCH 7, 2019, AFTER AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE SALE AND DISTRIBUTION OF CRACK COCAINE IN THE VILLAGES OF ALBION AND MEDINA, N.Y, THE ORLEANS COUNTY MAJOR FELONY CRIME TASK FORCE, THE MEDINA POLICE DEPT. AND THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY CONDUCTED SEVERAL SEARCH WARRANT EXECUTIONS AND MADE SEVEN ARRESTS, AN EIGHTH INDIVIDUAL WAS ARRESTED ON APRIL 2, 2019 ON SEVERAL CHARGES RELATING TO THE MARCH 7 ROUND UP.
POLICE ARRESTED:
· JOSEPH J. NEWTON, AGE 33, OF EAST CENTER ST., MEDINA, N.Y., HE IS CHARGED WITH:
1 COUNT OF CRIMINAL SALE OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE IN THE THIRD DEGREE. (CLASS B FELONY).
1 COUNT OF CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE IN THE THIRD DEGREE. (CLASS B FELONY).
1 COUNT OF GRAND LARCENY IN THE FOURTH DEGREE.(CLASS E FELONY), THIS CHARGE STEMS FROM A LARCENY OF A BOAT MOTOR STOLEN FROM THE TOWN OF SHELBY BACK IN AUGUST OF 2018. INFORMATION OBTAINED DURING THE ABOVE DRUG INVESTIGATION LED TO THE ABOVE CHARGE.
NEWTON WAS ARRAIGNED IN TOWN OF RIDGEWAY JUSTICE COURT, BY THE HON. JOSEPH KUJAWA, HE WAS COMMITTED TO THE ORLEANS COUNTY JAIL WITHOUT BAIL DUE TO HIS PREVIOUS CRIMINAL HISTORY. NEWTON IS TO RETURN TO TOWN OF RIDGEWAY JUSTICE COURT ON APRIL 8, 2019 AT 9:00 A.M.
NEWTON WAS WANTED ON SEVERAL OUTSTANDING WARRANTS THROUHOUT ORLEANS COUNTY, MEDINA POLICE OFFICER RICHARD MESSMER RECEIVED INFORMATION OF NEWTONS WHEREABOUTS AND WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY WITH ASSISTANCE FROM THE ORLEANS COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT.
FURTHER ARRESTS AND CHARGES ARE PENDING IN THIS INVESTIGATION.
