Taking a cut in pay, Brewster decided he wanted to pursue being an investigator and help get the bad guys off the street by putting the pieces together.

The last 24 years, Brewster has served as Chief Deputy of the Criminal Investigation Division. He says he is proud of getting many confessions over the years, especially in child sexual abuse cases. The confession meant the victims in the cases would not have to testify.

Retirement Ceremony

Brewster says he knew it was time to retire. Alone in his office one day last year, the feeling came over him that it was time to leave.

At 66, Brewster says he plans on catching up on all the projects around his house in Alexander and spending more time with his family. Being on call 24/7 the past 24 years, he says he also plans to catch up on his sleep.

After receiving his retirement badge from Sheriff Sheron, who took Brewster’s job as a dispatcher in 1977 , Brewster immediately handed over his current badge to Joe Graff, who is the new Chief Deputy of the Criminal Investigation Division. Graff, 45, has been with the Sheriff’s Office for 15 years, he most recently held the position of Chief Deputy of Road Patrol.

Brian Frieday will now replace Graff as Chief Deputy of Road Patrol.
