The Byron Fire Department was called to 6478 Freeman road for an outbuilding fire about 3:15p.m. Saturday afternoon.
When fire crews arrived on scene they called in for a 2nd alarm response because of the windy conditions and other nearby buildings that could have caught fire. South Byron and Stafford also responded.
Byron Fire Chief Robert Mruczek says a small farm building and an outbuilding that was attached were involved in the blaze along with a van that was not being used. A refuse pile was also involved.
Responding fire crews responded quickly, working against the high winds.
“They made a great stop,” says Chief Mruczek.
“They got the water right on the fire and put it out quickly to stop it from spreading.”
The farm was no longer a working farm and there were no animals inside the structure and no one was injured. One firefighter was checked out by Mercy Medics on scene.
No one was home at the time of the fire and a passerby called 911 to report the blaze.
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Department Fire investigator was called in to assist the Byron Fire Department in looking for the cause of the fire.
