GENESEE COUNTY/Oakfield man sentenced to 15 years in prison in rape of daughter

John M. Grabowski, 41, of Oakfield, was sentenced to a 15 year determinate sentence followed by 20 years of post release supervision. An order of protection was issued for the victim. He is also required to register as a sex offender.

On March 26, 2019, he pleaded guilty to rape 1st, a class B violent felony as a second felony offender. He was arrested on July 14, 2018 and faced a 14 count indictment.

The victim was 9 years old when the abuse first started. She submitted a letter that was read before the court by Assistant DA Shirley Gorman.

The victim told the court she just wanted him to love her like a normal kid. You treated me like a girlfriend, not a daughter, he wanted to get married, I’m your daughter she said, but he said nothing. I was worried he wouldn’t love me. Now I can’t trust anyone and I think bad about myself, I cannot forget what my father put me through. To this day I wonder if he loved me or just used me. I have so much pain, I just want to be normal. Once he even asked me if I wanted to snort coke He took something from me that I cannot get back.

According Gorman the abuse stopped after a home health aid was advised. “Thank goodness for the home healthcare aid, the victim told her what was happening and that is how this ended.”

Grabowski told the court before sentencing, “I would like the families to get through this the best they can.”

Judge Charles Zambito then told the court, “I haven’t seen a worse case than this, people believe these things don’t happen here but they do.”

“You took advantage of a young girl, your daughter, and manipulated her and controlled her without no one able to find out. I can’t find any reason to not sentence you to the max.

  1. This is very disgusting and he should get “life in prison” said by the whole Grabowski family side. He doesn’t learn and never has and his mother apparently didn’t raise him right which is probably why she moved and stayed with her felony criminal boyfriend, that didn’t help him learn from either! Have a life that you all too well know in jail! And leave your whole family out of your problems as well as the numerous family that you created!
