“The visual is so much more than the message,” says Wyoming County District Attorney Donald O’Geen.
Students at Attica High School witnessed a mock DWI demonstration on Thursday afternoon, where several people were seriously injured in a two vehicle accident with a fatality and one person charged with DWI.
After this past weekend’s triple fatal accident in Sheldon on Rt. 20A near Maxon road, the mock demonstration was a reminder of how not making the right choices can make lives changed forever.
“Lots of times people think this is just a made up story, they think its not going to happen to me,” says O’Geen.
The Sheriff’s Department has presented the mock DWI demonstration for a few years thoughout Wyoming County for an educational purpose. Each class, every four years will view the demonstration during prom season.
“This is very impactful to see what first responders have to go through. It’s real and it happens and if you don’t make the right choices, bad things will happen and lives are changed forever.”
Participants: the Attica Fire Department, Bennington Fire Department, and Cowlesville Fire Department, Mercy Flight, along with the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department, NYS Police, Partners for Prevention, Marley Funeral Home, Wyoming County Corner Mike Smith, District Attorney Donald O’Geen.
