According to a family friend, Antwan Odom, 18, will be allowed to attend his high school graduation at Batavia High School this coming Sunday June 23rd at GCC.
After a morning meeting with the City of Batavia School District today, the family was informed that Odom will be allowed to walk in the graduation ceremony set for 2:00p.m.
The family has paid for Odom’s cap and gown and plan to attend.
Odom has been attending classes at BOCES since the incident involving Ray Leach last summer on Ross street where the two classmates were involved in an altercation and fight.
Odom is facing an assault 1st and a criminal possession of a weapon 4th charge in the incident and has not been allowed to attend classes at Batavia High School due to an order of protection.
Last week in court, Odom’s attorney Frank Housh requested that Odom be allowed to attend his graduation ceremony. In court, Friedman said attorneys for the City of Batavia School District spoke with the Superintendent in regards to allowing Odom to attend his graduation and the Superintendent feared there would be a disturbance.
Housh requested amending the order of protection so Odom could attend.
Judge Zambito did not have an issue with amending the order for graduation. Zambito had no jurisdiction over the School District’s decision.
The superintendent mad the right choice of letting the young man Odom walk in graduation I know these two men and I truly believe there is no grudge between them anymore they were brothers at one point on the same team and they now share a common enemy regrets!
It is a very good move by all in this terrible situation ,the school district, the judge ,but most importantly the young man how could have gone down the wrong road but was man enough to know he made a mistake and continue to work towards this deploma he and his parents deserve praise for getting him to this point of being able to walk across the stage with his classmates I say congrates to Antra Odom and his parents
