Jeremy Karas was appointed to the Councilperson -At -Large position during Monday night’s Batavia City Council Business Meeting .
Karas was sworn in replacing Adam Tableski who stepped down from the position after his wife Rachael was named Assistant City Manager.
Karas has been on the Republican Committee for 5 years and is looking forward to getting things done. He lives on Union street with his wife Andrea and sons Tim and Steven, who are both students at St. Joseph’s Regional School.
By a vote of 8-1, Council accepted the bid of $46,000 from Cantenary Construction to repair the Redfield Parkway Pillars. The company most recently brought the Creekside Inn back to life in LeRoy. Councilman Bob Bialkowski says he his confident that Cantenary will do a good job.
Two Grant Awards were also approved, one for Cedar Street Sales and the other for a hair salon/apartments at 242 Ellicott street. The grants are for $20,000. Cedar Street Sales is adding a building and improving the front of the current building. The building on Ellicott will undergo renovations to the front of the structure and to an upper apartment.
The Batavia 9-10 year old Little League team was also honored with a proclamation for winning titles regionally and then going on to the state tournament.
Also honored was Charles Neilans, Chief Operator at the Water Plant for 30 years, who just recently retired.
A resolution to waive residency requirements for a City of Batavia firefighter also was passed.
