“It was bumpy, but pretty cool,” says 9 year old Harper Ferris, who was dropped off to school on Engine 11 this morning after coming in first place in the City Fire Coloring Contest.
There to greet her at St. Joseph’s this morning was the entire school.
“It was indescribable,” says Harper.
Pulling into the driveway with sirens and passing by the YMCA was her favorite part of the ride on Engine 11.
Principal Karen Green says the students love to come out and greet the winner of the contest each year. She thinks part of the reason the kids do well every year is the school stresses the importance of being neat and still teaches cursive, the basics.
Harper is part of Marianne Clattenburg’s 3rd Grade class. Harper’s parents Andrew and Katelyn Ferris along with her sister Scarlett were also on hand for the big day.
