Today, Major Stash held a soft opening for customers to come in and check out the 1600 square foot lounge.
Batavia resident Doug Palmer has had a lot of hobby job businesses that he has run out of his home.
“This is the first hobby job I have been able to take to the next level and devote the cash to it and get it off the ground thanks to the backing of friends and family.”
Palmer started the cigar business out of his home a few years ago, but then it became to cumbersome to run out of his home, so he closed it up. Since then people have continued contacting him on the web to purchase cigars. He has had to turn them away.
After looking for the right space for two years, Palmer and is wife Christa happened to be at the Pok-A Dot one day and noticed that this space was available in the ID Booth building on Liberty street.
“I happened to be here at the right time.”
The space had only been vacant for one month and was not on the market yet.
“There is a need in Genesee County, especially here in Batavia. Lots of people from Rochester who pop off the thruway or from Darien Lake or on their way to a Bills game. That’s why we think we will have the right clientele and customer base.”
How it works is you buy your cigars from Major Stash and sit in their lounge to watch TV, talk with friends, do a meeting or do lunch, WiFi is available.
“We are looking forward to not only the people who know what they are doing with cigars , but people who are new. We are ready to educate them and ramp into a cigar that isn’t too harsh or deter them so their first experience won’t be negative.”
Palmer has been working on the lounge since October 1st and plans to have a Grand Opening in January. He also plans to add a golf simulator.
The space has an air cleaning system that works to clear the smoke and during the soft opening they are looking to see if a second one is needed. They are also working on the front door and entrance area . They will use the soft opening time to work out any kinks that customers advise them about.
Things that are not allowed are E-Cigs, vapes, hookahs, glass pipes or any outside cigars.
Palmer says they may consider adding classic pipes and pipe tobacco later on. In the meantime, Palmer’s kids Anthony, 25, and Valerie, 22, will continue to help their dad in setting up his business in time for the Grand Opening in January.
