GENESEE COUNTY/GCC Foundation holds its largest fundraising event to continue to assist students with scholarships

The GCC College Foundation held its Encore Gala event last evening at the Richard C. Call Arena at GCC. The event is a fundraiser to raise money for scholarships that will be provided to students who may run into economic hardships while attending college at GCC.

Since 1985, the Genesee Community College Foundation, a not for profit organization, has been dedicated to providing services and support to GCC students through many programs and scholarships that inspire students to succeed academically and help them become active contributing people in our local communities.

The Encore Gala, in its 27th year, is the Foundations largest fundraising event that continues to help support students who may face economic hardships that may prevent them from continuing to attending college.

This years Co-Chairs, Mary Blevins and Jenna Holota, organized “An Evening of Elegance, Encore 2019”

In 2018, the Foundation awarded over $145,000 in scholarships.

(From GCC Press Release)Blevins has lived and worked in Batavia for 28 years, and with her husband Richard, they raised their sons John and Matthew in this community. In addition to being the branch manager at ESL Federal Credit Union in Batavia, Blevins is the chairman of the Genesee County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

“I’ve always believed in the work GCC does,” Blevins said. “I was so honored when Rick Ensman contacted me to chair this event. I’m excited to bring together new elements and admired traditions to through music, dining, dancing, networking, and friendship all wrapped up in “An Evening of Elegance” at Encore 2019.”

Holota, grew up in Batavia and is now raising her three-year old daughter, Mckenzie, in her hometown. As the assistant branch manager at ESL, Holota enjoys helping the credit union members through every financial situation they encounter. 

“When Mary asked me to co-chair this event with her, I was both proud and honored. I’ve enjoyed attending the event in the past,” Holota said. “Knowing that I will be contributing to a scholarship program for GCC students makes it extra rewarding.”

Tompkins Financial was the Benefactor Sponsor with gifts of $10,000 or more.

Five Star Bank was the Holiday GLOW Sponsor with gifts of $5,000 or more.

Whitney East Inc. was the Hors D’Oeuvre Station Sponsor with gifts of $2,500 or more.

ESL Federal Credit Union was the Holiday Memories Sponsor with gifts of $1,500 or more.

S.J.F. Construction Inc. was the Joyful Jazz Sponsor.

Dinner(food stations) were provided by the Dibble Family and Event Center.

The DSP Jazz Trio provided Cocktail hour music and Nik and the Nice Guys provided the Holiday and Pops music for the evening.
