GENESEE COUNTY/Temporary moratorium on new permits at DMV

Genesee County Clerk Michael Cianfrini has placed a temporary moratorium on any new permits at the County DMV office in Batavia.

Cianfrini says because of the uncertainty in the processing of documents that are now accepted due to the passage of the Green Light Law, his office will not be able to service people who want new permits.

On Thursday, NYS installed an authentication device at the Genesee County DMV Office that will be used to authenticate foreign licenses. After the installation however, no training was provided to the 7 cashiers at the Genesee County DMV.

“They can either wait, and hopefully this will be short term and we can get more information and begin to resume processing these, or if they would like to try one of the adjoining counties so see if they can process these they are welcome to do that as well,” says Cianfrini.

Cianfrini says the employees at the Genesee County DMV Office participated in a 45 minute webinar provided by NYS last week, but no questioned could be asked during the webinar. Any questions had to be emailed afterwards.

Any other transactions can be handled at the Genesee County DMV, enhanced driver’s license, real ID’s, license renewals, if you have been already issued an NYS driver’s license, registration renewals, any other transactions other than issuing new permits.
