Quinton Edmonds, 31, of Rochester, appeared in Genesee County Court on Friday afternoon, along with his attorney Fred Rarick.
Edmonds is currently being held without bail at the Genesee County Jail on a murder 2nd charge in the death of 43 year old Michael Paladino.
Judge Charles Zambito declared the case ready for trial after denying a motion to suppress evidence after a December 12th suppression hearing where Sgt. Dan Coffey took the stand and explained what happened in the early morning hours of June 1, 2019 at 5-7 Ross street.
At about 12:45a.m., Edmonds was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with a female on the sidewalk near 5 & 7 Ross street.
Paladino heard the argument and attempted to intervene. A physical altercation then ensued between Paladino and Edmonds. During the altercation Paladino sustained life-threatening injuries.
During the hearing on December 12th, Rarick argued that police did not have probable cause to detain Edmonds and that the “Show Up” procedure was very suggestive.
On December 31, 2019, Rarick says his client received 400 pages of discovery for review in the case. Rarick then told the Court his client would like to retain an attorney and would like to address the court.
When asked, Edmonds said he did not want to address the court.
Rarick says he also provided all Grand Jury transcripts and photographs to his client.
Rarick then requested some time for his client to look over the discovery material.
District Attorney Larry Friedman says he expects the trial to last about a week and a few days.
A trial date of May 11th was set with a plea cut off date of February 19th.
According to Friedman, no plea has been offered or discussed. Friedman did says after court that he would listen to what the defense might offer.
