Six term Erie County Republican legislator Ed Rath officially launched his campaign to seek election to the NYS Senate in the 61st District, which includes Genesee County and parts of Erie and Monroe counties.
Rath made his announcement at the Harvester Center in Batavia on Friday afternoon with his family at his side, including his mother, long time Senator Mary Lou Rath. Mary Lou was NYS Senator in the 61st District for 15 years from 1993-2008. Retiring NYS Senator Michael Ranzenhofer has held the office since Mary Lou Rath’s retirement in 2008
Since serving as legislator for 12 years, Ed Rath was the lead sponsor of Erie County’s Silver Alert local law and also co-authored the County’s Cyber-Bullying local law.
He was born and raised in Erie County, graduated from Syracuse University and earned his MBA from Canisius College, Rath has worked in the energy industry for 30 years. He resides in Amherst with his wife Amy and their three daughters.
