GLOW Women Rise held their first Women’s Empowerment Forum on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church on East Main street in Batavia.

The event had two sessions, the morning session, “Thriving More Than Surviving” and “Daring Women Do” in the afternoon session.

Morning session, Carra Stratton, Emily LeMaster, Josephine Jacobs, Nicole Ortiz, Rena McCumiskey,
Afternoon session, Devin Hogan, Alecia Kaus, Carol Kistner, Alexis Hellerman and Amber Hainey

The 10 panelist, coming from all different ages and backgrounds, shared their experiences in connecting and thriving through difficult times and then how they learned from it.

“We decided to have this because we wanted to have an event where women could come together and talk about issues that affect them and then connect with each other, we need to build a network of women supporting women,” says Dorothy Avery, President of GLOW Women Rise.

Avery plans to hold another event similar next year, but is also planning to offer more forums and workshops and seminars throughout the year on different topics that impact women.

“I want the group to be non partisan and I want conservative, liberal, republican and democrats because I want women from all different groups to come together and I want them to feel comfortable here and that is my challenge.”

About 50 women attended the free event.
