Chairman of the Wyoming County Board of Supervisors, Jerry L. Davis, reports:
As of earlier today, Thursday, April 2nd, Wyoming County Health Department reports the following:
Fifteen (15) lab confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 among Wyoming County residents have been reported to the Health Department.
Northwest (Attica, Bennington, Orangeville, Sheldon) 2 positive cases, 1 recovery
Southwest (Arcade, Eagle, Java, Wethersfield) 2 positive cases
Southeast (Castile, Gainesville, Genesee Falls, Pike) 2 positive cases, 1 recovery
Northeast (Covington, Middlebury, Perry, Warsaw) 8 positive cases, 3 recoveries, 1 death
Other* 1 positive case, 1 recovery /*There is 1 case residing in another location, now recovered
Going outdoors while the weather has improved is a healthy way to stay active, and reduce stress. While engaging in outdoor activities, everyone will still need to continue to engage in social distancing.
The NYS Department of Health recommends following these precautions to enjoy outdoor activities safely:
Avoid close contact with people, even when outside. Keep a distance of at least 6 feet to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
Avoid games and activities that require close contact.
Avoid frequently touched surfaces and objects. This includes playground equipment like slides and swings. Don’t share equipment such as bicycles, helmets, balls or Frisbees.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
Cover your cough and sneeze into a tissue and discard the tissue in a closed container.
Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60% alcohol:
o When you return indoors,
o before and after eating,
o after using the restroom,
o after coughing or sneezing,
o after touching surfaces or items that may be contaminated.
If you are sick or had contact with someone who is sick in the last 14 days:
You should stay home.
You may enjoy spending time in your own backyard or other personal outdoor space, but should not go into public outdoor spaces.
