Judy Brown, a resident at the Wyoming County Community Health System’s Skilled Nursing Facility, and her husband, Paul Brown, both 69 years old, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in an unusual way on Saturday afternoon.
Paul was lifted to Judy’s 2nd story room by the Warsaw Fire Department’s aerial ladder truck so the couple could recite their vows through the window.
“We’re just doing a lot to make sure our residents are happy,” says Sue Winiecki, Activities Director/WCCH.
“The community here in Wyoming County is just amazing, they have done so much for us, just to keep us going and cheered up, we come in and do our jobs and take care of the residents like they are our family.”
Judy was wearing her veil and had a bouquet of flowers, Paul dressed in a suit. The Brown’s three sons and their families also showed up in the parking lot to celebrate the occasion along with nursing facility staff.
Waving and blowing kisses, the family applauded after Paul announced you may now kiss the bride. Paul read the exact wedding vows that he saved in a recording from 50 years ago.
Paul says Judy has been at the Skilled Nursing Facility since December for rehabilitation after knee surgery. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the couple are now separated.
“The Lord has blessed us and I’m happy for that, I wish I could give her a kiss, but maybe soon I hope.”
The dietary staff brought in cake for Judy after the celebration.
Congratulations to our “downtown Judy brown” !!!! 50 years is an amazing blessing. This will be another unforgettable moment to add to your many years Happy anniversary to you both!
