Sterling Stroman, 55, of North Lyon street, Batavia, has been fighting cancer for 6 years. This past October, he learned that the cancer had gone to his lungs.
He is now under hospice care at home.
Sterling is declining. This past weekend, he asked to begin seeing his family because he says that his body is shutting down. He has been losing weight rapidly, 7 pounds last week.
So, sister Michelle and sister in law Robin organized a parade of love and support to surprise him on Saturday evening. The City of Batavia Fire Department started the parade of about 50 cars that included friends from high school, family and work friends from GCASA, where he was employed for the past 20 years.
This past November, he was able to live a couple of dreams when hospice provided club seats at a Sabres game. During that game, he was able to meet Dominic Hasek.
West Herr Auto Group also provided club seats for the Bills/Broncos game November 24th. Sterling was able to experience his ultimate dream of meeting John Elway and shake hands with the entire Denver Broncos team as they came onto the field. He also met Jim Kelly and several other Buffalo Bills Hall of Fame players.
Hey Sterling, I just wanted to say hi and that I remember you very much as your Art teacher at Oakfield-Alabama Central School. I’m sorry that I have to reach out to you under such conditions, but this just came across my Facebook feed. And it said Sterling only, so I checked. But that was silly cause I never met anyone in all my years of teaching named Sterling!..except you of course!..I just remember how funny and cool you were back them. I wish you love and a safe journey and know that my prayers tonight will be directed to you and yours…take care my friend
Hello Sterling just want to give you a shout out for all you taught me at Atwater including not letting me cook out of a box which at the time was all I knew how to cook and sure didn’t Know about cooking for a group thanks again and keeping you and your family in my prayers
Please tell Sterling that my thoughts and prayers are with him and your family!
Sterling, you have always been a kind and thoughtful man. I suspect you are unaware of the number of lives you have impacted, for the better of course, you always did it with grace and humor. You are universally loved by all of those you have touched, including my own. God bless.
