WYOMING COUNTY/Drugs seized from mailed packages at Attica Correctional Facility. Synthetic marijuana, amphetamines recovered

Officers recovered eight ounces of synthetic marijuana, commonly known as K2, and amphetamines in packages mailed to inmates at the maximum security facility.

On Thursday, June 18th, an officer was processing a package that contained two books. Upon examining the books, he noticed suspicious stains on several pages on both books. The pages were tested and tested positive for amphetamines. A total of 194 pages had amphetamines
dried into them.

The books were mailed from the Brooklyn area.

On Tuesday, June 23, officers processing packages for two inmates recovered a total of eight ounces of synthetic marijuana. An officer discovered 39 bags of a green leafy substance hidden
in packages of fruit snacks. A second officer discovered synthetic marijuana hidden in cans of green beans after seeing abnormalities in the cans while X‐raying them.

Both packages were mailed from downstate.

On, Monday, June 29, an officer processing a package that contained a book noticed stains on pages of the book. The book was tested and was positive for amphetamines.


“The trend of trying to send drugs to inmates through the mail continues throughout state prisons during this pandemic. Almost on a daily basis officers are discovering drugs hidden in packages. Those attempting to send the drugs are finding new and creative ways to try and get
the drugs into the hands of inmates, but staff continues to do an excellent job in detecting them.” stated Mark Deburgomaster, Western Region Vice President.
