The calls for trees and lines down started coming in to 9-1-1 about 7:00p.m on Wednesday night, after a severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service.
Elba Fire Chief Mike Heale and his department had to suddenly respond to many calls at once in the area of Transit road, North Byron road, Oak Orchard road, Watson road and Ridge road. Many calls were for trees and lines down.
A tree on Oak Orchard road toppled over against a house and damaged the windshield of a car.
On North Byron road, a tree came down on the roof of a garage.
As the calls continued to come in to dispatch, fire crews realized that the storm had also flattened corn in a field and had broken the tops off trees in the area of Watson road.
The storm had a path.
“Can’t confirm anything yet, but something came through here, but not sure what yet,” says Chief Heale.
National Grid also was called to the area to repair downed lines and poles. The Genesee County Highway Department responded to assist with cleaning debris from the roadway.
